QS Top 50 Under 50
QS Top 50 Under 50 is a new ranking that shines a light on the next generation of international thought leaders.
Based on 2011/12 QS World University Rankings, QS Top 50 Under 50 lists the leading universities worldwide founded since 1962.
As governments around the world compete to attract the best students and academics and to produce the best research, the last 50 years has seen the emergence of hundreds of new universities around the world.
Many of these are specialist science and technology-focused universities, with governments investing in state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities in the hope of fostering innovation and driving economic growth.
While the majority of the leading universities in QS World University Rankings can point to centuries of heritage, QS 50 Under 50 shows that a new generation of upwardly mobile institutions is emerging in their shadow.
As in QS World University Rankings, institutions are ranked based on six criteria: academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per faculty, student/faculty ratio, international student ratio and international faculty ratio.
Whereas the upper reaches of the QS World University Rankings are dominated by universities from the US and UK, QS Top 50 Under 50 presents a radically different picture.
With investments being made by emerging economies throughout the world, this new ranking provides an insight into the next generation of leaders in higher education.
